Despite the terrible events of July 7th and after very careful consideration, the Senior Instructor Group of the BSKF decided that the Summer Training Seminar planned for Saturday 10th at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre should proceed. It was felt that if the seminar was cancelled those who had sought to destroy our way of life would have succeeded. Over 100 Kenshi from around the UK attended and benefited from training with instructors from the BSKF Senior Instructor Group.
Daniel Biggs (2nd Kyu, Harrow Dojo) writes:
I found the seminar to be a great contribution and asset to my training. The chance to practice and learn techniques with different kenshi and Sensei from around the country was a great benefit. I would encourage all kenshi to participate in such seminars.
Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre provided a good venue and changing facilities (although there was a bit of confusion with unisex changing rooms at the end of the seminar!) and importantly lunch was simple but very effective.
Mizuno Sensei gave us some excellent advice on what he and other judges look for in Embu competitions, which will come in handy for the next Taikai. It was also helpful to learn different approaches of executing techniques from the kenshi and Sensei.
I was glad the terrorist atrocities in London didn't prevent the seminar from going ahead as this sent out a message that the people of Britain will and not live in fear.
