The 1991 European Study Session was hosted by the British Shorinji Kempo Federation, in Bournemouth. Guest instructors were Tsunehiro Arai, Kunio Bando, Tamao Sanada and as usual, Hiroshi Aosaka of the French Shorinji Kempo Federation.
The study session was attended by 385 kenshi from Britain, Finland, France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The BSKF worked very hard to organise the event, including homestay visits for many of the participants.
Sanada sensei, of Tokyo University Branch, gave a seminar on how to use hokei to construct embu. Bando sensei had already become somewhat famous in the United Kingdom after his appearance in the BBC's Way of the Warrior series, and he gave a lecture on seiho, focussing on treating common minor injuries encountered during training.
There was a dinner on the Saturday evening, and everyone celebrated in style. This event is held fondly in BSKF members memories, and Bando sensei's presence especially was appreciated.
